Meet the Eagle's Nest 2009 Staff

We could not run camp without our wonderful staff. So I would like to introduce to this years staff!

It would be an understatement if I said that this years staff are all individuals!!!! They are very unique and each have their own personality, but together they make for a great camp for the kiddos who love them to death!

Melissa, is here for a second year. She is from Texas and sweet as a button. We love her and find it a privlage that she came back this summer! She has taken the role of Girls PC. This is a person who helps with the behind the scenes running of camp and is the go between Bryan and the counselors. She has done an awesome job!

John, is also here for a second year! He has practically grown up at Eagle Lake, being a camper and on Crew. We are so lucky to have him here at Day Camp. John is a calm and takes on situations and it comes. He is our Guys PC and doing an amazing job. He is ready to do any job wether it is to refil the water cooler or takes kids out on a bike ride. He has a great attitude and is a polite southerner!

Jacob is also here for second year. It has been to awesome to watch Jacob grow from last summer to this summer. He is amazing with the kids and they love him. He is one of those guys that is not afraid to ask the kids the hard questions which is a great to have in a counselor. It has been a blessing to us and the kids to have Jacob at camp again this summer.

Jess is new to Eagle's Nest this year. She is full of energy and the kids love that. She has done a great job working with the girls. Jess is from Alabama and is pure crazy, but we love her!

Jesse is also new this year to Eagle's Nest. He has been a great counselor! He is up for anything and always willing to jump in and help. Jesse is from New Hamshire and has brought good impressions of the East to the West!

Lauren comes to Eagle's Nest this year from Texas, but grew up in Brazil. Lauren has brought her unique life situation to the group. She is sweet and has a strong desire to contect with everyone, the kids and the adults. She is a great new addition to the Eagle's Nest Family!

Clarissa joined the team for the fisrt time this year. She is quiet and thoughtful. She has done an excellent job with the kids. I have enjoyed seeing Clarissa come out of your shell as the summer has continued!

Seth is also a first time counselor at Eagle's Nest this year. He is easy going and always up to join the group. He always has a great attitude which makes him very easy to work with. The kids love him and we are lucky to have him!

Monique! I can't say enough about her. Monique's 3 kids all come to camp and Monique volunteers everyweek with us as our EMT. She is an amazing person. She is there not only for the kids, but also for the counselors. We aer so grateful and God put Monique and her family in our lives!

I thank God that he brought each of these to us this year. I pray that they would take hold of these last weeks at Day Camp and cherish them. I pray that they will be able to take what they have learned this summer into the their everyday lifes and continue to grow and teach others about Christ!

Ministry, Life, and Kids!

First of all, I apologize for being so late on this update. So what have the Thigpens been up to? Well...Ministry, Life, and Kids!

Ministry...

Since Christmas, Bryan has been busy with interviewing potential counselors and organizing field trips for this summer. He actually said that this summer should be the best field trips we have had in three years. They are even going to take the kids to the Royal Gorge! He has also been working on the theme for this summer which will be Amazing Race. This time of year always gets exciting as summer approaches and life gets very busy. Next month we have two different groups coming to camp for retreats and an extended version (short weekend version of camp) in Oklahoma. So there will be lots of traveling for Bryan and weekends away from home.

Life...

Well as many of you knew we sold our house and were living on the Conference Center over Christmas. Since then we found a great house to rent! It is smaller then we are use to, but less to clean! It is in a great area of town and is a shorter drive for Bryan. God blessed us with this home and we are very grateful! The kids love it and are very excited because there is a garden in the backyard. They can't wait until we can plant and start our garden. Erin hopes at least one thing will make it. It is a first for us!

Kids...

The kids are getting bigger by the minute. Logan is 4 1/2 now and thinks he can do just about anything. He loves going to Awanas and playing Transformers. He also loves swim lessons and is on level three, he is turning into a fish! We are homeschooling preschool and getting ready to start phonics! Landon is 2 and full of it! He loves to dance, play cars, and tell his little brother what to do. Levi turned 1 on the 20th. He is standing and trying his hardest to keep up with his big brothers!

Disney World...

If you were to ask the kids what they have been up to they will tell you that they got to go to Disney World. We packed up the three kids in the car and drove to Disney World. It was great and worth the drive!!!!! We have been saving and looking forward to this for 18 months and it was great and much needed family time. We took it easy and only went to the park for a portion of each day, then just hung out at the house we rented and went swimming. Logan's favorite ride was Thunder Mountain and the Dinsosaur Ride at Animial Kingdom. Logan loved every minute and asked if we could live there! Landon loved all the rides. He would start jumping up and down when he saw a ride and would say, "YES!" Levi just loved looking at everything. He also loved the kiddie playground that was made just for his size. The great thing about Disney World is there is something for every age!

My favorite vacation quote, "Mom it's sooooo nice outside. Can I just wear my underwear to Disney World?!?" Logan (Definately a Colorado Boy)

Christmas 2008

We had a wonderful Christmas and celebration of our Savior's birth! Ma and Pa Haines were able to join us for Christmas. They arrived at the Marien house on Christmas Eve where we joined them. We went to the candle light service at the Marien's church minus Bryan who was home with a sick Landon and Paul who was also sick :(. It was a great sermon on "What it Would Be Like if Christ Never Came." Very good food for thought! The service ended with Silent Night as we all had our candles. I love looking over the church and just seeing the lights. It always reminds me of how we are to be lights in the world. We then headed home for tamales, Advent tree, Christmas Story, and Christmas PJ's (one of my favorite traditions). The kids were off to bed ready for Santa's arrival. Did he come? Yes he did! And with six kids in the room there were tons of toys!!!!! Later that afternoon we switched the light and celebrated my newphews birthday, Drew, who was born on Christmas day. He was very cute because he wanted his cake to say Happy Birthday Drew and Jesus! Love it! I hope that all of your Christmas' were as blessed as ours and that God showers upon you and your family in 2009!

The Crazy Thigpen World

So what has been happening in the Crazy World of the Thigpens? Everything. Well, we sold our house! What? Yes we sold our house. Being that we are still working on support and trying to still pay off 3 c-sections we decided to sell our house and use the money to pay off our debt! FREEDOM! So in the last couple weeks we have packed our house, had a stomache virus work it's way through our whole family, packed some more, an ear infection, pack some more, strep throat, move our stuff to storage, strep throat number 2, move into the Chalet (temp. housing on the Glen. So now we don't have to find a place until after the holidays!!!!), and now strep number three. So I have decided to go into hiding with my children because we are tired of being sick. No, not really. We are very excited to get to go to Tucson for Thanksgiving with our families and then stay for an extra week to work on our fundraising. So hopefully our sickness will stay in Colorado.

Speaking of Thanksgiving. I would like to take a moment to say what I am thankful for in my life. I am first of all thankful for a God who loves us so much that He sent his only son Jesus to die for our sins. How awesome is that! I am also thankful for all my family and friends who are always there to support us! Well I could go on forever, but I won't. Let me know what you are thankful for?

PS: We are driving, not flying so there will be no crazy flying stories this time!!!!! For that I am thankful!
